Barbara Turner - Older Adult Ministries
I was born and raised in Virginia, where I attended Ferrum College and then Pan American Business School in Richmond. It was there where I met my husband. We married in 1968. His work with Phillip Morris and RJR took us from North Carolina to Mexico, Guatemala, Miami, Geneva and back to Winston-Salem. Along the way, we raised our two children, and I worked for East Carolina University and Clemmons Moravian Daycare for several years; however, I spent more time traveling with my husband all over the world once our children were grown. My husband passed away in 1997 and my son in 2010. The love and support of my friends and church family at CUMC sustained me. In January, 2003 I became Director of Older Adult Ministries, the position I have held now for almost 23 years. The list of things the older adult group has done is much too long for this bio. Please know that my door is always open, my phone is usually with me (if I can find it!), and I’m always open to new suggestions and ideas for ministries and activities. I thank the good Lord for each person at CUMC, for those who serve with me as the backbone of this ministry, and for my wonderful years serving our Lord and the older adult program here.
