Dr. Bryon Grohman - Director of Music and Worship Arts

Hi, I’m Bryon Grohman, and I am blessed to serve as Director of Music and Worship Arts here at the church. Each week I make music with members of our congregation—directing the Chancel Choir, playing the organ, leading the children’s choir, planning music for worship, and preparing larger works like cantatas that allow our choirs and instrumentalists to share the beauty of the gospel in a powerful way.

Alongside my work at the church, I also teach voice as an Associate Professor of Music at Wake Forest University. Teaching both classical and musical theatre voice keeps me energized and gives me the chance to mentor students in their own musical journeys. Over the years, I’ve also had the opportunity to perform as a soloist with ensembles such as the Opera Theatre St. Louis, the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New World Symphony, and Seraphic Fire, Miami.  Most recently, I released a solo CD, Clara Kathleen Rogers: Songs of the Gilded Age and Beyond, with Albany Records.

My own musical journey began with studies at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Later, I completed my doctorate at Indiana University, and I’ve continued to serve as a performer, educator and church musician ever since.

I grew up in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, and now live in Pfafftown with my wonderful wife Kristin, and our four daughters—Anneke, Ava, Anneliese, and Adeline.
